Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check
- Fee: $1
- Estimated Time: 2-3 minutes
- Requirement: Being in the California Department of Justice’s Automated Firearm System (AFS)
- Note: There is no requirement for the ammunition purchased to match the gauge or caliber of firearm(s) listed in your AFS records.
Important AFS Information
- ID Information: Must match the information in AFS.
- P.O. Box Issue: This is likely to be a problem if it appears on the ID.
- Updating AFS Records: Required for changes in name or address. Documentation is necessary, and updates are not instantaneous.
Ammunition Restrictions
- Be aware of the certain types of ammunition that are restricted in California:
- Armor-Piercing Ammunition: This is illegal to purchase or possess.
- Magazines Over 10 Rounds: Magazines that hold over 10 rounds are generally prohibited.
Transporting Ammunition
- When transporting ammunition:
- Keep it in a separate compartment from firearms.
- Store it in a locked container if possible.
- Always comply with local laws regarding transportation.
Ammunition Transfer Fee
- Invoiced amount up to $300 = $30.00
- Invoiced amount over $300 = 10% of invoiced amount
- STATE TAX: If not collected by seller, 11% excise tax will be collected
- 3% fee if paying with credit card
Storage Fees for Transferred Ammunition
- Up to 15 days = Free
- 16 - 30 days = $25.00 additional fee
- 31 – 60 days = $50.00 additional fee
- 61 – 90 days = $100.00 additional fee
Ammunition left for more than 90 days will be considered abandoned.
CA Sales Tax must be collected on the full invoiced amount of the ammunition shipment.
If you fail your background check, it is your responsibility to get the ammunition shipped back. All fees above will still apply.
It is your responsibility to track your package to know when it arrives. We will make attempts to contact based on information provided on the shipment invoice. You claiming that you never received a call is not our responsibility. Please respect our policy and be responsible for your own products when transferring.
